The Captain’s Prize
The Leaderboard after Day 1
31st August Captain’s Prize 2014.
J. D. Harding held the joint lead starting the final round of Mr. Gerrie Dunne’s Captain’s Prize on Sunday with a 67 in the first round.
With six holes left to play and standing on seven over par for his round ,it looked like his hope of winning the coveted prize was slipping away. Martin Brennan had put in a final round charge. With birdies on three consecutive holes 8 , 9, and 10 helping him to a 66 Martin was leader in the clubhouse and in a strong position. Michael Manogue, Derek Campion and Jason Brennan were still in the hunt out on the course. However J.D. steadied the ship with a birdie on 13 . He covered his last six holes in level par to return a final round 72 and record a two shot victory. Martin Brennan ‘s last round heroics earned him second place with Michael Manogue coming third. Michael Buggy captured the gross by one shot from Jason Brennan. In the student section Declan Buggy played magnificent golf shooting 68 on both days . Declan has many years of golf to look forward to on the back of this great performance. That night J.D. Harding was presented with the Captain’s prize by Captain Gerrie Dunne, fresh from his ice bucket challenge earlier in the evening.
