15th Sept. The journey for our Intermediate Foursomes  April 21 and continued until September 14 with a victory over Athenry Golf Club earning the ladies the title of All Ireland Champions.  A total of 220 teams entered the event at the start of the season. Gort Golf Club was the setting for the semi and final of the AIG competition.  Having secured a win over the  Ennis team on Friday September 13 the players prepared for a tough battle with neighbouring club Athenry. Managers Honoria Fogarty and Marie Gannon left no stone unturned and ensured the team was motivated and confident as they teed off in front of a large crowd of supporters from both clubs.  Captains Anne and Mick were on hand to extend good wishes and impart words of encouragement to the pairings. The game ebbed and flowed and it was difficult to predict a winner on the completion of 9 holes.  But Amen Corner proved to be a turning point for Castlecomer and the tide began to turn slowly in favour of the Drumgoole ladies. As the rain began to fall, once again Honoria and Marie had to inform the team that playoff holes were necessary to declare a winner. Having played two  extra holes Theresa Manning and Emma Walsh secured the title for Castlecomer to loud applause from the travelling supporters. Honoria and Marie  delivered passionate words of praise and thanks as Rosemary Tully, Golf Ireland President presented the players with their gold medals. Captain Anne was thrilled to receive the pennant on behalf of the club. Celebrations continued in Gort and later at Castlecomer.  It was truly an historic day for every member of our club.

25th Feb 2024. Our ladies were out in force to witness the Joint Captains’ Drive In on February 25. Lady Captain Anne Breen, Mr. Captain Mick Mc Grath and Junior Captain Ms. Cara Doyle stood side by side  while  the golfing community watched on in anticipation as they awaited this special event.
The sun peeked through the clouds temporarily casting a hue on the fairways. Lady Captain Anne, resplendent in her official attire addressed the crowd. Her words echoed the spirit of inclusivity and camaraderie. Mr. Captain  Mick, a stalwart of the club nodded in agreement while Junior Captain Cara with youthful exuberance, gripped her driver tightly , ready to make her mark.
And then it happened, the ceremonial tee shots, all  delivered with precision into the horizon.
The applause from the members echoed across the course. As the trio walked off the tee box they carried with them the hopes and aspirations of the entire club.
The Joint Captains’ Drive In wasn’t just about hitting a golf ball, it was about continuity, respect for tradition and the promise of a  vibrant golfing year.
And so, on that chilly February afternoon, Lady Captain Anne, Mr. Captain Mick and Junior Captain Cara  etched their names in the club’s history, their drives representing leadership and the enduring spirit of Castlecomer Golf Club.

18th Jan 2024. The frosty conditions have become an unwelcome obstacle for the passionate golfer eager to hit the greens. The frustration mounts as frost laden fairways and icy putting surfaces force us  to abandon our golfing plans. The crisp winter air that usually accompanies the sport is now a hindrance, rendering the golf course temporarily inaccessible over the past few days. We find ourselves grappling with the disappointment of disrupted routines and missed opportunities for comraderie on the course. The anticipation of a satisfying round is replaced by the vexation of weather-imposed limitations,  leaving us all eagerly awaiting warmer days when we can once again indulge in our favourite pastime.
We look forward to St. Brigid’s Day which announces the onset of Spring.

Lady Captain Anne stressed the importance of inclusivity within the club and outlined her vision to achieve this objective.
On conclusion of the meeting the committee members were in a positive frame of mind and wished Anne the very best as their representative for the coming season.
The Winter League continues. Round 2 is currently in progress and will conclude on January 31.
6th Jan 2024. The New Year kicked off to a fantastic start with a celebratory lunch to mark Nollaig na mBan. The event was hosted by Lady Captain Anne Breen and was attended by many of the lady members. The atmosphere in the Clubhouse was lively as the ladies swapped stories on current and past happenings. It was a magical way to greet 2024.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the hard work and dedication that Theresa and Michael have put into the golf club over the past year. Their leadership and commitment have been truly inspiring, and we are delighted to have been a part of the club during their tenure.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all that they have done. The club has benefited greatly from their contributions, and we know that their legacy will continue to inspire future generations of golfers.

We thank them for their service to the club during the 2023 season.

Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh!

The South East Alliance is regularly well attended and the outing to Kilkenny G.C. was no exception as over 75 ladies participated in the event. A veil of fog covered the course for a short period of time but quickly disappeared to reveal a beautiful December day. Ex officio Theresa Manning was one of the many Castlecomer players who entered the competition. Theresa had a steady round and posted a score of 32pts which placed her in 4th position,  a fantastic performance in a big field of players. Congratulations Theresa.

Round 2 of our Winter League runs from December 14 to January 9 inclusive. Thanks to Eileen Healy our Competition Secretary who rejigs the schedule to ensure all ladies get an opportunity to play competitive golf over the festive season and beyond.
Lady Captain Anne, Committee, and club members would like to acknowledge the service of Ms. Noreen Kinsella  Club Secretary as she  steps  down from her role at Castlecomer G.C. Noreen’s hard work, professionalism and positive attitude were truly appreciated by everyone. We would like to express our gratitude to Noreen for her efforts in making Castlecomer Golf Club such a fantastic organisation to be part of. We wish her well in her future adventures.
Holly Shortall is now part of the G. I.  coaching development panel ( South) 2023/ 2024.

A brief summary of items discussed at our Ladies’ A.G.M will be issued in the coming days.

We had a great night to mark another year of golfing as it grew to a close. There’s nothing quite like the camaraderie of club golf and the shared passion we all have for the sport. No matter our handicap, we face the same challenges when we hit the rough or the bunker and feel the same joy when we drive straight down the fairway or sink a long putt. The social aspect of Irish golfing adds an extra element to the game that makes the birdies and eagles even more magical. Fine food, good music, and great company made this Captains’  Dinner a night to remember. Many thanks to Lukazs and his team, Morgan and Colin who ensured everyone has a wonderful evening.
