Ladies Interclub News

Ladies Inter Club:  The Boyne team played  Thurles  Wednesday last. Winning their two matches at home they needed one away match. This they did and they now advance to the next round. Their opponent is New Ross. Team, Betty Owens & Lady Captain Margaret, Maria Downey & Bessie Brophy, Breda Phelan & Ita Madigan, Honoria Fogarty & Maureen Norton and Joan Brennan &Theresa Manning. The Junior Cup team of Emer Foley, Honoria Fogarty, Joan Brennan, Loretta Mansfield and Ita Madigan were unlucky to lose out to the Royal Curragh Monday last. The team played exceptionally well and only lost out on the 19th hole
LADIES DIARY: Peugeot Qualifier extended until Friday 1st June. This holiday weekend there is a 3 person team event on Saturday and Sunday.

Ladies Inter Club Competitions: Lady luck deserted Castlecomer this week. Losses were recorded by the Senior foursomes to Kilkenny, the Intermediate to Tramore, the Challenge to Edenderry and the Junior foursomes to Courtown. Good luck to all the winning teams in the next round.

The two teams representing the club this week are the Boyne who take on Thurles today, Wednesday and the Junior Cup who play Royal Curragh on Monday next.

LADIES:Well done to the senior cup team of Honoria Fogarty, Emer Foley, Ita Madigan, Maureen Norton and Caroline Conway on reaching the final of the Plate v Mullingar. Mullingar proved too strong and came out worthy winners. Good luck to junior and senior foursomes and intermediate and challenge cup teams competing this week.
Cullen Cup: Castlecomer golf club recorded a superb away win over New Ross. Team: Maria Downey & Martin Brennan (G), Ann Ring & Jason Brennan, Joan Brennan & Ronan Walsh, Honoria Fogarty & Michael Daly, Bessie Brophy & Damien Knox. It was a terrific occasion for the Brennan family with 3 family members helping, in no small way, to inspire the team to victory on the day. Continued good fortune to the team.

LADIES‘ DIARY: Good luck to the four ladies teams that will represent the club this week . The intermediate team play Borris on Wed 2nd May in Mount Juliet, the Minor Cup team play Tulfarris in Carlow, the Challenge Cup team play Mullingar in the Royal Curragh on Saturday 5th May and finally on Sunday the Revive Active team play Rathdowney. -A busy week ahead for the ladies.

LADIES: Inter club competitions: Well done to our Challenge Cup team who had a great win over Mullingar on Saturday in Royal Curragh. First out was Bessie Brophy who won on the 18th after a very tight match. Marjie Gannon was out next in another close match. Marjie had a great putt to secure a win on the 18th. Noreen Curry who was out third played consistently good golf and won early on the 14th. We had great reserves in Patricia Brennan and Marnie Brennan coming behind, who were called in. It was a great to win as Mullingar had beaten Castlecomer in the semi-final last year.

Intermediate cup ladies team had a great win on Wednesday in Mount Juliet They beat Borris Team: Maureen Norton, Theresa Manning, Nuala Mahon, Helen Murphy and Emma Walsh.

WHAT A BATTLE-Revive Active: Castlecomer played against Rathdowney in the revive active four ball. What a match this one turned out to be. After 6 hours of golf Castlecomer were beaten by a super Rathdowney team by the last putt on 18th green. Congratulations to both teams and good luck to Rathdowney in the next match. Team Margaret Furlong and Patricia Doheny, Delia O’ Donohue and Maureen Norton, Nuala Mahon and Mary Brophy, Loreto Mansfield and Margaret O’ Keeffe, Susan Boland and Bessie Brophy.

The Minor Cup team headed to Carlow during the week also. They were beaten by a very strong team from Tulfarris. All matches were very competitive with Tulfarris proving too strong for Castlecomer. Team, Margaret O’ Keeffe, Kathleen Ryan,

Delia O’ Donohoe, Helen Dunne, Eileen Healy and team managers, Maria Downey and Loretta Mansfield.

 

The Junior Cup took on Bunclody in the first round played today in Gowran. There was great golf played by all and Emer sealed the deal on 19th . The team  was: Emer Foley, Maria Downey. Breda Phelan, Honoria Fogarty, Joan Brennan,

Team Managers: Breda Phelan & Emma Walsh.

Congratulations to the Junior Foursomes team, who beat Athy today in Abbeyleix. Betty Owens, Maureen Norton, Margaret O’Keeffe, Theresa Manning, Emma Walsh and Nuala Mahon. Managers were Ann Ring and Hanora Fogarty.

LADIES’ GOLF: The club’s participation in the interclub team competitions started  in earnest last weekend with the intermediate team playing in Baltinglass. The Castlecomer ladies  played against Tulfarris    Maureen Norton won on the 14th hole, Theresa Manning won on the 16th, with Nuala Mahon sealing the match for Castlecomer on the 13th.  Helen Murphy was  2 up  and Frieda Campion was called in.
The minor cup team played in Athy the same day. The team had a great win. Kathleen Ryan won on the 15th, Mary Brophy won on the 14th and lady captain Margaret  O’  Keeffe also  won   on the 19th. Helen Dunne and Delia O’ Donohue were called in. Well done to both teams. Next week the junior foursomes will play Athy in Abbyleix.
Get into golf. Get into golf is back. This is a 6 week course inclusive of 4 lessons with a golf professional costing 50 euro. Registration is on Monday 9th April at 7.30pm. If interested please ring Honoria on 087 9171579.
