Warren Byrne’s Captains Prize was an overwhelming success, proving to be a family affair, with the prize going down to the very wire. Ciaran Kelly, that wily old campaigner pocketed his first captains prize, just holding off his nephew Josh Kelly on the very last hole of a 9 hole playoff, following 36 holes of sumptuous golf played over two weekends.
The glittering array of prizes was a joy to behold and huge thanks and congratulations must go to Captain Warren and his good wife Kyra. As mentioned above Ciaran prevailed in a nail biting finish but Josh’s stock has risen over the summer, due in no small part to him competing in inter club competitions under the tutelage of a couple of stalwarts of Castlecomer GC. That is not to take anything away from his uncle Ciaran who has rolled back the years with some outstanding good all summer.
A truly deserving victor to a battle hardened trooper. The weather played its part over both weekends and a night of revelry followed in the clubhouse with Ciaran delivering a heartfelt and emotional speech in front of many friends and family.
Well done Ciaran, there’s life in the old dog yet!
