The weekend was rounded off in spectacular fashion by the Barton Cup team. With the away draw against a very strong and much fancied Rosslare team, ‘Comer came out on top on a scoreline of 4-1. At home John Buggy continued his impressive form of late with an emphatic win alongside his playing partner Martin Rowe who won their match on 13. Shane Coakley and Eoin Healy were in control of their match when called in. As alluded to above, the away matches are critical in this format, and this was where ‘Comer excelled. Opening proceedings were Rob Brennan and Nicky Walsh, and despite being up against a formidable pairing, the lads prevailed on 16, winning 4 and 2. The duo of Mark Shortall and Michael Daly had a very impressive win when finishing their match in 15, while Colum Lynch and Billy Rowe were called in as the match had reached a conclusion. Congratulations to manager Captain Warren Byrne and he has some serious decisions to make for the next round this is a much sought after and ever improving panel. With competition for places hotting up nicely, the Tuesday and Friday practice sessions will have added bite in the next three weeks as they’re are a number of pairings knocking on Captain Warrens door.
