With the away draw yet again, our lads took on New Ross GC in the Mid Leinster quarterfinal in blisteringly hot conditions. The pairings at home were the evergreen Paddy McGuinness and Peter Mulhall who despite being 5 up at one stage, managed to scrape over the line winning on 17, and the duo of John Holohan and Liam Downey who also won on 17. Away were Pat Murtagh and Nicky Walsh who won 4 and 3, and Keith O’ Neill and Colm Meagher who were 1 up on 18 when called in. This was an impressive victory as the squad was depleted somewhat due to other commitments and there is certainly food for thought for the management team of Byrne and Byrne, while they may sound like a firm of accountants, Warren and Kieran are two wily campaigners, and they’ll surely come up with the correct formula when the lads face Cill Dara in two weeks time.
