Our Pierce Purcell team advanced to the mid Leinster final with a hard fought victory over a very strong Cill Dara team. We finally had a home draw and that was to prove conclusive. Colm Meagher and Keith O’ Neill secured the vital away point and John Holohan and Liam Downey did likewise at home. Our other pairings didn’t fare as well as Nicky Walsh and Pat Murtagh away and Peter Mulhall and Paddy McGuinness home, both lost to their direct opponents. This meant playoff hole was needed and the chosen pairing of Holohan and Downey were the duo that were picked to get us over the line. And what an inspired choice it turned out to be. A magnificent drive from John followed by a brilliant approach shot from Liam set up a birdie opportunity for ‘Comer. A simple tap in par followed which set up a date in the final versus close neighbours Abbeyleix GC on August 3rd in Royal Curragh GC.
